Dedicated to public service, Monte Kwinter has spent nearly 30 years delivering results for York Centre.
The operator of a commercial real estate firm, Monte is a former Vice-President of the Ontario College of Art and editorial director of a publishing firm. His long history of community involvement Chair of the Toronto Harbour Commission, Chair of the Toronto Humane Society, A Director of the Canadian National Exhibition, and the Molson Indy Board of Trustees and he was the founding president of the Toronto Regional Council of B’Nai Brith.
Monte first brought his commitment and dedication to public service to the Ontario legislature in 1985 – where he has since served seven terms as the representative for the York Centre community. Since then, Monte has held several high profile cabinet positions, including Minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations, Minister of Financial Institutions, Minister of Industry, Trade and Technology, and Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services and Solicitor General. He currently serves as Parliamentary Assistant for Economic Development and Trade and Chair of the Ontario Investment and Trade Advisory Council.
Monte is particularly proud of the healthcare results delivered for his community. While the Hudak-Harris Conservatives closed Branson Hospital, Monte and the McGuinty Liberals restored the services at this vital healthcare centre. On top of that, Monte is delivering a new hospital in the York Centre community, with construction scheduled to start later this year at Wilson and Keele.
Monte and his late wife, Wilma, have two sons, two daughters and ten grandchildren.
